Overpayments

In the event a payroll overpayment to an employee occurs, payroll will notify the department of the net amount owed. Once the department informs the employee of the correct amount, the employee will need to remit payment using one of the following methods:

1. Online credit card payment      (Preferred method)

If the employee wishes to pay the overpayment using a credit/debit card, they need to email payroll@mail.wvu.edu for assistance.  An individualized link will be created and emailed to the employee.  Once payment has been made, a receipt will be sent to payroll and the employee from the electronic payment system.  A 2.85% service fee will apply to this method of payment. 

 

2. Check or money order 

Check or money order made payable to West Virginia University.  The employee should write "payroll overpayment" on the memo line.  The check will need to be submitted to the department/business office.  The department must complete a Paycheck Return Form and forward it along with the check/money order to WVU payroll at:
