I’m a benefits-eligible non-exempt (hourly or clocking) employee. How will Inclement Weather/Emergency Closures pay impact my overall pay for the week?

  • You will receive Inclement Weather/Emergency Closure compensation for the hours you were schedule to work during the emergency closure period on your campus. You will be paid at your overtime rate for any hours you worked during the closure. You will be paid at your regular rate for all hours worked not including hours during the emergency closure (which are already paid at the overtime rate) up to 40 hours. For any hours you worked beyond 40, you will be paid at your overtime rate.

Example

An employee is not usually scheduled to work on Sunday but was called in from 12:30  p.m. – 8:00  p.m. The employee worked his regular schedule of 3:00 p.m. – 11:00 p.m. on Monday-Friday. The employee will also be required to work 7:00 a.m. – 7:00  p.m. on Saturday. Each day the employee had a 30 minute meal break.

The employee’s total for the week will be:

  • 7.5 hours at regular rate for scheduled hours during the emergency closure
  • 40 hours at regular rate for hours worked
  • 11 hours at overtime rate for hours worked during the emergency closure
  • 5 hours at overtime rate for hours worked over 40 but excluding work during the emergency closure

The totals are calculated using these pay rules:

  • The employee will be compensated (not on his/her Time Card) for the 7.5 hours he/she was scheduled to work during the emergency closure: 3:00  p.m.– 11:00  p.m.on Monday. * He/she will not receive this extra compensation for the hours worked during the closure on Sunday because those hours were not scheduled. * The employee will be paid at his/her regular rate for:
  • 3.5 hours: 12:30  p.m.– 4:00  p.m. on Sunday before the emergency closure
  • 7.5 hours: 3:00  p.m. – 11:00  p.m. (minus meal break) on Tuesday
  • 7.5 hours: 3:00  p.m. – 11:00  p.m. (minus meal break) on Wednesday
  • 7.5 hours: 3:00  p.m. – 11:00  p.m. (minus meal break) on Thursday
  • 7.5 hours: 3:00  p.m. – 11:00  p.m. (minus meal break) on Friday
  • 6.5 hours: 7:00 a.m. – 2:00  p.m. (minus meal break) on Saturday, up to when the employee worked 40 hours this week (excluding hours worked during the emergency closure).
  • The remaining time on Saturday will be paid at the employee’s overtime rate.
  • The employee will be paid at his/her overtime rate for hours worked during the emergency closure and after reaching 40 worked hours (not including hours worked during the emergency closure on his/her campus):
  • 3.5 hours: 4:00  p.m. – 8:00  p.m. (minus meal break) on Sunday after the emergency closure
  • 7.5 hours: 3:00  p.m. – 11:00  p.m. (minus meal break) on Monday
  • 5 hours: 2:00  p.m. – 7:00  p.m. on Saturday, after working 40 hours excluding the emergency closure period.
